Hayes Day School provides services for children ages 5-21 who have multiple disabilities or autism. We currently have students from eighteen districts across the Hudson Valley. We provide a highly structured and supportive program for students who have medical, behavioral and/or academic needs.

Hayes Day School provides a 12 month program certified by New York State Department of Education. Children are referred by their local school district’s Committee on Special Education (CSE). The local school district is responsible for tuition and transportation.

Our staff members have experience working with a wide range of abilities. We focus on the individual needs of each student. This may include life skills, academic skills, vocational skills or a combination of all three.

Our Approach
You will find at our school that we provide a multi-sensory individualized approach designed to promote academic, social, sensory and physical growth. Our goal is to maximize the quality of life for each student we serve. We deliver special education with compassionate care.

Our spacious classrooms are equipped to provide the support necessary to enhance the education of students with significant needs. Small Teacher to Student Ratios allows us to focus on the individual needs of students. We are designed with the following classroom configurations:

8 Classes @ 6:1:3 (6 students/1 teacher/3 classroom assistants)
1 Class @ 12:1:4 (12 students/1 teacher/4 classroom assistants)

Our Program Includes
Academics with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) developed by a team to meet the individual strengths and needs of each student reflecting the NYS Alternative Learning Standards. Assistive Technology is incorporated within the classrooms. SMART Boards, iPads and Alternative Communication Devices are available for use by students as appropriate. Life Skills Education includes personal care skills, daily living activities, community integration and pre-vocational training. Specialized Services such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Adaptive Physical Education, Nursing Services, Creative Arts Therapy, and Vision Services are included as appropriate.
